Villa Ida is a private residence, set amidst beautifully manicured gardens, filled with orange and lemon trees, a swimming pool, and a typical “Pergolato” adorned with beautiful locally crafted ceramic decorations. Strolling around the property, you can smell the intoxicating fragrance of lemons and oranges that abound while marvelling at the abundance of gorgeous hydrangeas that border the garden.
This beautiful property has belonged to the noble “Luongo” family for more than 200 years. Since 1800, they would spend their vacation in Sorrento at this villa until early 1900, when they decided to make it their primary residence, since life there was more peaceful and relaxing.
At that time, this villa was already the place where Baron Carlo Luongo, patriarch of the family, used to share evenings with family and friends, and enchant them with the beautiful piano melodies he would play.
At the same time, “La Baronessa Ida”, Carlo’s daughter-in-law, would delight their guests by preparing meals using fresh local products from the area. Besides dedicating her time to the education of her 4 children, she would create delicious meals in the typical Neapolitan style, the secrets of which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. After her death, the villa was dedicated to her, a tribute to this kind and gentle woman and unforgettable mother and grandmother.
Today, her family shares this same love and passion for cooking with all those who visit Villa Ida.
